Heather Watkins, a Navasota History teacher, was named as a finalist for the David C. DeBoe Texas History Day Teacher of the Year Award. This award is presented by the Texas State Historical Association. To be considered for the competitive award, teachers must engage their students in historical research through the National History Day Program. TSHA only names 15 finalists out of 230 applicants.

Read moreGrimes County Commissioner Barbara Walker shared a notice from TxDOT about a future project that will impact traffic on FM 2988. TxDOT plans to work on Texas 6 at FM 2988 Feb. 26 to March 8. The project is expected to last approximately 11 days. Traffic will be rerouted to CR 318 then back to FM 2988. Use caution in the area and with the detour. The construction will add a safety lane for entrance onto Texas 6 from FM 2988.
