The students listed on the President’s Honor Roll at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours. Read moreThe Navasota Public Library will have a book signing February 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. by David A. Bowles, author of the Westward Sagas series. His new book, “Comanche Trace” is about Fayette Smith. In Austin, TX in 1841 while celebrating his ninth birthday, Smith was abducted by the Comanche, a Native American tribe. He was brought to Santa Fe, NM where he was sold to the Comancheros. Three years later he was returned and grew up to be one of the early founders of Navasota, TX. He married Elizabeth Gresham, raised a large family and built a two-story Victorian home in 1888. The home still stands at 904 E. Washington Ave. in Navasota. Fayette and Elizabeth are buried side-byside at Oakland Cemetery, 801 Sixth St. in Navasota.
Read moreTxDOT reached out to Navasota ISD to determine if there was still a need for the school zone on Washington Avenue in Navasota. At one time the school zone was necessary as numerous students used the crossing to attend school. NISD provided TxDOT with a written letter stating the school zone is no longer needed because the students in surrounding neighborhoods are not zoned for Brule Elementary and the campus has a no walking policy. TxDOT is exploring if the school zone can be eliminated and explained there is a process for the school zone change which may take a while.
Read moreAt the Jan. 26 meeting of the Navasota Planning and Zoning Commission, commissioners gave their stamp of approval to the final plat for Phase IV of Pecan Lakes Estates. It was submitted by J&H Navasota Development, LLC, and will add 193 single family homes on Navasota’s west side.
The motion also included approval of a Subdivision Agreement with the developer to allow the plat to be filed before all public improvements have been constructed. Development Services Director Lupe Diosdado explained that water, sewer, gas, underground storm infrastructure and street improvements had been inspected and were accepted by the City Council via Resolution Jan. 23.

The hub will serve residents across Grimes County and provide services from newborn to geriatric needs.
