The Examiner is hosting a candidate forum in the Navasota City Council Chambers, with a date and time to be announced. Invitations have been sent to candidates for Navasota City Council Place #5 and Navasota ISD Board of Trustee Position #5. The forum will be streamed live on The Examiner Facebook page.
Read moreGrimes County Historical Commission chair Mary Ann Waters appeared before Commissioners Court a second time March 15 to request use of the former county clerk building for GCHC office space and storage. For the second time, no action was taken pending further discussion of county properties.
According to Waters, the building was constructed in 1910 as the First National Bank of Anderson and is “significantly historical to Anderson.” She added that a Texas Historical Commission marker is being sought.

Among the policy and mission items included on the administrative body’s agenda was the interview of a pastoral candidate. This was the first time Navasota’s First Presbyterian successfully hosted the event. The first attempt in the 1800s was canceled because of the yellow fever epidemic. Torrential rains in the 1900s caused the church to flood resulting in cancellation of their second meeting.

Read moreAUSTIN — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.68 billion in February, 14.2% more than in Feb. 2022. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.
“Propelled by continued strong business spending and a surprising post-holiday surge in consumer spending, growth in February sales tax receipts significantly outpaced inflation, which is still hovering over 6%,” Hegar said. “Robust increases in receipts from all major sectors suggest economic activity in the state is not yet slowing significantly despite high interest rates and fears of recession.
