Navasota Garden Club presents the April Yard of the Month to Anita and Keny Simpson for their yard at 1701 Stone Ridge in Navasota. The yard features front beds with Queen Ferns, Esperanza, potato vines, Mandevilla, Petunias, Norfolk Pine, V. Ginger, rose bushes and Mexican Heather. The exquisitely manicured lawn features a 20-foot pecan tree.

The annual themed fundraiser went western with a horse relay race, country and western music, themed food booths, games and more. They also toured the beautiful, historic Grimes County Courthouse and Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site. The Confederate Memorial Plaza was created 23 years ago by the SCV Grimes County Greys Camp 924.

Grimes County Lieutenant John Jones said officers responded to the 7000 block of FM 3090 in Anderson around 11:03 p.m. April 6. Jones said it appears the teenager was handling a 9mm handgun when it discharged striking him in the chest.

HB 4551, authored by District 12 Representative Kyle Kacal, proposes a change to section 1, subchapter B of chapter 26 of the water code. The code would require a permit for the high-speed rail project. It is written to authorize Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to issue the permit authorizing the construction and operation of a high-speed rail project “only if the commission determines that the construction and operation will not adversely impact the quality of drinking water, surface water, or groundwater in any area of Texas.” HB 4551 would take affect Sept. 1 if approved.
