A ceremony in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month was held at Grimes County Business and Justice Center April 5. Member of the Grimes County Child Welfare Board and representatives from Scotty’s House spoke about child abuse awareness, and blue pinwheels were placed to honor children affected by child abuse.

Texas Downtown Association was established in 1985 and its mission is to provide members with resources, advocacy, education and connections to develop vibrant districts. The organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local associations, small businesses, and individuals.

Navasota High School Band earned a Concert and Sightreading trophy at the Region 27 UIL Concert and Sightreading contest at Brenham High School. In Concert, Rattler Band scored two ones and a two, and three ones in Sightreading. They are led by head band director David Holland.

Following one year of extensive negotiations with CHI St. Joseph Grimes Hospital and corporate owners Catholic Health Initiatives/Common Spirit, an Amended and Restated Lease Agreement was approved by Grimes County commissioners Wednesday, April 5, and named the county judge as signatory. Representing Grimes County through the lengthy negotiation period were County Attorney Jon C. Fultz and Pct. 3 Commissioner Barbara Walker.

Two Navasota Independent School District campuses – John C. Webb Elementary and the NELC Campus, was placed on a secure soft lockdown. No one was allowed on these campuses until all clear was issued by Navasota Police Department.

The Grimes County Republican Women will hear from two women of distinction in Grimes County law enforcement at their Tuesday, April 18 meeting. The featured speakers are Jail Administrator Lt. Angelica Alfaro, Patrol Lt. Annie Chumley with Grimes County Sheriff’s Office.

The fundraiser will be held at St. Stanislaus Parish Hall, 1511 Highway 90 South, in Anderson. A Ribeye steak dinner with all the trimmings is $20 per plate and begins at 6 p.m. A live auction will be held at 7 p.m. Raffle tickets for the 10 Guns for $10 drawing are also available.
