Growth was the driver behind the Wednesday, April 19, Special Meeting and Workshop of the Navasota City Council. Voting 3-0, council approved Resolution 734-23 opposing special districts, including Municipal Utility Districts, in the City of Navasota and its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). Councilman Grant Holt was absent and council member Pattie Pederson was not present for this vote.

ANDERSON – Grimes County Commissioners are moving forward with additional offices at the Grimes County Business and Justice Center.
During the April 19 meeting, commissioners approved a contract with MBC Management in Navasota for the design and build of a multitenant office building. Funding for the project comes from American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Grimes County Attorney Jon C. Fultz said the design/build contract is new to him.

At a Regular Meeting of the Navasota City Council, Monday, April 24, council members approved awarding the 2021-2022 Street Maintenance Project contract to Knife River Corporation. Of the three bids received, Knife River was the low bidder with a base bid of $377,828.20.
The streets slated for paving rehabilitation and chip seal are Ashville, Cemetery Road, Chinski, Dallas, Don, Doris, E. Hill, Ella, Fanthorp, Florida, Frazier, Grace, Houston, McNair, New Cemetery Road, New York, N. Eighth, N. Jones, N. Ninth, N. Railroad, Owen, Park, Pierce Road, Ruth Court, Schumacher, Second, Smith, Sycamore, Texas, Waco, W. Virginia and Wright.

Two Navasota men were arrested Friday following an early morning assault.
Around 7:45 a.m. Navasota Police responded to the 700 block of Doris Street and met with a female juvenile who stated she was assaulted by 18-yearold Leonard Jessie.
During the assault the victim stated she fled to another residence. The accused assailant reportedly followed her into the residence and continued to assault her and stole an item from her before fleeing.

Grimes County Animal Rescue hosted their 3rd Annual A Cause for Paws Fundraiser April 22, at Grimes County Expo Center. Attendees enjoyed Derek Spence’s Tribute to George Strait. Navasota Evening Lion’s Club presented GCAR with a $2,000 donation.

Navasota High School senior Ceily Simpton signed a National Letter of Intent to rodeo at Texas A&M University. She competes in barrel racing and breakaway roping. Ceily was joined by her parents, Dan and Jamie, as well as TAMU rodeo coaches and multiple family and friends. The senior will major in Agribusiness.
