Well folks the bad news for the week is Iola Junior High/ High School has been closed until after Labor Day due to coronavirus. Hopefully everything will get better soon. Because of the closure the first two football games were canceled.

Since May, members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham have been selling raffle tickets for their 52-week gun raffle. The first winner was drawn Sunday, Aug. 30. The winner’s name is Bo Imhoff winning a Remington 1911 R1, 45 ACP. A name will now be drawn every Sunday for the next year.

It seems like I always have a death to report. I just returned home from my Aunt Doris Becker’s funeral. Due to COVID-19 and the hurricane, several of the out-of-town relatives were unable to attend, but it was good to see that many people did come for the family.

Evergreen Baptist Church resumed Sunday School classes Sunday, Aug. 23. Classes had been suspended since the coronavirus outbreak began several months back. There were approximately 50 that attended the first Sunday back.
