Throughout the entire state of Texas schools are preparing for student returns, and our town is no different. For several weeks Richards ISD (RISD) administration and their education team have been busy prepping school supply lists, parent surveys, athletic schedules and the RISD official reopening plan. Part of their reopening plan will include changes to transportation and lunchroom protocols, “face to face or select remote instruction” and health screenings (mainly self-screening before coming on campus).

There have been 4,197 books delivered to kids and teens and 520 books delivered to adults. Librarian, Karen Shiver, has cheerfully delivered thousands of age appropriate books and traveled 100’s of miles over our country roads delivering books in Bedias, Iola, Singleton, Roans Prairie and Shiro.

The family of Elizabeth (Gaetz) Kowis has been planning a 100th birthday party for her on Aug. 1, for over a year. A dinner and dance at the parish hall at St. Mary Catholic Church (where she has been a longtime member) was in the works.
