The 15th Annual Trunk or Treat event on Main St. in downtown Anderson is Saturday, Oct. 28 from 6-8 p.m. This event is a safe and fun place for children of all ages to have a great Halloween experience. There will be free candy and activities for children and adults. Each year the evening is provided by local businesses, organizations, churches and individuals. Read moreThe annual homecoming football game was held in Iola Friday, Oct. 13, with a good number of people in attendance. Iola defeated Milano 40-7. Good going Iola. The king and queen were installed. They are Lindsey Gooch as the queen and Cadence Shive as king. Best wishes to both of them. The evening before there was a bonfire with lots of good eats, including hamburgers.

In the spring, when young, it is light bluegreen turning to shades of purple when mature. Leaves are about 1 foot long, ½ inch wide, alternate, light green to blue-green. Hairs grow from small, bulb-like spots on the edges. Basal leaves curl as they age turning brown or tan. Flower clusters, spike-like panicles or spikelets, are on one side of the stem. They bloom June through November turning purple-ish with deep-orange anthers and feathery white stigmas.

Read moreFriday night lights was fun. Somerville won the trophy defeating Snook in their rivalry game, 20-14, in overtime. Somerville supporters cheered their Yeguas to victory. I know my two grands, Bree and Bean, were exhausted. Bree is a cheerleader and Bean plays offense, defense and center for a special play which I understand is called “tank.” Bean’s coach told me afterwards that they won because I was there. Congratulations to the Yeguas. Homecoming is Friday so stay tuned.
