Read moreThe Installation of officers of Orphans Friends Masonic Lodge No 17 was held Saturday, July 9, at their lodge hall in Anderson with a good number attending. Some of the previous officers remained but several were first time officers. Following the ceremony, a meal was served. Everyone had a great time.
Read moreOn the evening of Saturday, July 16, I got a call that terribly saddened my heart. The Town of Anderson lost a great man with the passing of F.D. Calhoun, at the age of 87. At one time, the Town of Anderson was an incorporated town from April 2, 1983 to April 7, 1984. F.D. served as Mayor of Anderson during that time. The Town of Anderson was re-incorporated in January of 1995 when John Freeman was elected Mayor and F.D. served as an Alderman under him until Mr. Freeman stepped down in 2003.

With grass fires popping up daily - the need for our community to be smart and diligent is at its highest. Over the past 2 weeks volunteer fire departments across the county have responded to fire after fire and almost every one of them have been careless burning by individuals. Your trash and brush piles can wait, especially when we are facing extreme risks.

To think that so much water can fall out of the sky, which now is empty and clear! We place our trust in You. We are sure that You know our needs, but You want us to ask You anyway, to show You that we know we are dependent on You. Look on our dry hills and fields, dear God, and bless them with the living blessing of soft rain. Then the land will rejoice, and the rivers will sing Your praises and the hearts of men will be glad. Read moreThe Freedom Festival Fourth of July parade Friday, July 1, in downtown Navasota, was fun. It was good to see three entries from VFW Post 4006. There was a car for the Children of the American Revolution, a convertible Mustang driven by the Commander with members Steve DuPree and James DeGeorge and a 1962 Austin Heely convertible driven by Nicole Schupe, Secretary of the Auxiliary and her passenger, Carol DeGeorge, Secretary of the Auxiliary.
