Area friends of John Lee Sowell were sorry to learn of his death which occurred Monday, June 15. He was born Jan. 21, 1930 in Houston the son of Sam Orland and Alvah Dickey Sowell. He was raised on a farm in Phelps.

Read moreSt. Stanislaus’ Spring Festival that was scheduled in March had to be postponed and reset for Sunday, June 28 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The festival will be a modified form of the original event and will take place in the parish hall and church grounds. A hamburger and hot dog lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. A silent and live auction and limited activities will take place. There will also be a raffle with prizes consisting of: (1) $500 Visa gift card; (2) $400 Walmart gift card; (3) $300 Visa gift card; (4) XBOX One; (5) Sceptre 50” Ultra HD LED TV; (6) $200 Grand Station Gift Card; and (7) iRobot Roomba Vacuum. Social distancing will be encouraged, and the hall will be fully sanitized before the event. Bring the kids out for a wonderful time. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the CCE program.
