It is nice to feel like we are finally working toward getting back to some type of normal life. Although it’s not what we are used to, it’s still better than what it was a month ago. On Monday, May 25, Don’s mom, JoAnn Sowell turned 84. Being as she is a resident of Navasota Nursing and Rehab and all nursing homes are still on “lock down,” we have not been able to visit her since mid-March. Employee Mary Mable arranged a window visit for us with her that day. So, Don and I and Joe and Denise Shead got to see her precious smiling face for the first time in months, and she was just as beautiful as always. Our family would like to express our appreciation and a big thank you to Mary Mable for fixing her hair and painting her nails that morning. She looked as if she felt like a queen. JoAnn has always been a big “hugger” so that was the hardest part not being able to give or get a hug.

Read moreTo wear a mask or not, that is the question? There is much controversy today about masks. In my opinion, for what it’s worth, and this is strictly just my opinion, I believe it’s up to the person wearing the mask. I have seen people become angry about either way. I try to wear a mask most of the time when I am out and about. I would not want to make anyone sick. I did attend church for the first time Sunday in quite a while and forgot my mask. I just tried to keep my distance. I understand to wear the mask does not protect me but protects everyone else.

The bazaar had to totally change their format and was basically thrown together in three weeks. It was amazing!

Read moreI hope everyone enjoyed and had a safe Memorial Day. The holiday was different but we all still had joy. No man can take your joy. The world didn’t give it to us and the world can’t take it away. Grimes County keep your joy!
Read moreCallirhoe involucrata, winecups, are native to Texas and northern Mexico. Seen in Grimes County beginning in late winter or spring, the bright magenta cup-shaped flowers can’t be missed in fields and along highways. There are similar species of Callirhoe called winecups used the same way as C. involucrata.
Read moreThe St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will be holding their Memorial Day weekend annual bazaar Sunday, May 24 on the church grounds in Stoneham. The bazaar will be held in a modified form of the usual setup. Fr. Ed Kucera and the bazaar committee are working hard to make the best of a sad situation. Safe practices are in place so fun can be had by all. The auction will be under the open-air pavilion instead of in the hall. They will also have their raffle and a barbecue lunch will be handed to you in a to-go plate. Other changes will also vary from the original bazaar so plan to come out to support this church and check out the new changes for this year.
