Darrell Hall neighborhood news - Chad Mallett wrote us last week, [We are] “waiting on cost [estimates]. Hope to have that by next week, if not sooner. Once we have that, we can set up an informal meeting with residents to discuss options and viability. If we press forward, we will advertise and set up a public hearing. We can then bring [the proposal] before Commissioner’s Court for approval and have the residents vote.”

It’s hard on reporters when there is nothing going on and most events that normally would be happening have been cancelled. Every July Don and I attend the Sheriff’s Association of Texas’ Annual Conference. This July it was to be held in Fort Worth, but two weeks ago the conference was cancelled. Ugh! That was usually our annual vacation for the two of us. I have to do something or I’m going to go crazy! So please, if you have any kind of news from your family like vacations you took, accomplishments or special bits of news, call and let me know. This job is getting harder by the day!

Read moreRichards residents stood in amazement as they watched a train go through town one day this past week. Trains frequently pass by and it doesn’t take them long if you have to wait for one to pass, but there was something different about this train. Some of the residents said they’ve seen the train come by many times, but this was a first. A backhoe was up on top of a railroad car. The train wasn’t moving fast through town as usual, it was moving slower and was dropping off railroad ties very carefully and efficiently along the way. It was an amazing sight to see.
