AUSTIN - The Texas Senate approved sweeping state and national security protections with the passage of Senate Bill 147 by Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R-Brenham).
By an overwhelming vote of 19-12, the legislation aims to curtail the purchase of Texas’ strategic assets — farmland, oil and gas, timber and rare earth materials — by foreign entities classified as hostile by the Director of US National Intelligence for three consecutive reports. These nations currently include China, Russia, North Korea and Iran.

Navasota native Christina Lee-Williams, M.Ed. held a “Chat & Chew” book signing at Navasota Public Library April 27. Lee-Williams was surprised by her kindergarten teacher from John C. Webb Elementary, Brenda Barrett, who attended the signing. The two kept in touch via social media but had not seen each other for several years. Barrett, who retired from NISD after 33 years said she is proud of her student. Lee-Williams said having her teacher there made the event special.

The artwork “Artof the Rattler” was created cohesively by various Navasota High School organizations and depicts all NHS programs. Barcak, who owns The Nerd Bee in Navasota donated the artwork back to Navasota High School. He is also a former technical theatre student. It is almost time for little fishermen and fisherwomen to have fun competing at the annual Kid Fish hosted by the City of Navasota and organized by Kid Fish Foundation.
Kid Fish is Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at Patout Pond in front of Dove Crossing, in Navasota. The event is free, and registration begins at 8 a.m. the day of the event. The first 100 registrants will receive a free Navasota Kid Fish t-shirt. Kid Fish Foundation will provide fishing equipment and city staff and volunteers will help with knot tying, casting and fish identification. Trophies will be awarded to winners in each age category.
