Sworn in Dec. 18, 2017, County Judge Joe Fauth has several budgets under his belt but creating a balanced budget that’s fair to taxpayers and county employees can be challenging. Highlights of Fauth’s proposed 2021-2022 budget include no increase in the tax rate, increasing the hourly wage of specific law enforcement positions, a cost of living adjustment for county employees and hiring three new employees.

Metaphorically speaking, the curtain lifted at the Navasota Theatre Alliance’s Season Reveal and Members Meeting Saturday, Aug. 21. Wine, refreshing teas, hors d’oevres, decadent desserts, a silent auction and door prizes added to the excitement of reopening, but it was NTA president Joyce Yorek who best expressed the thoughts of many after its long absence.

August Horst Park on Navasota’s west side became a little more pet friendly after council approved the installation of a dog park at the Monday, Aug. 23, meeting. Also contained in the motion, was the use of $15,661.90 from the Voluntary Park Fund to cover the cost of fencing, dog watering stations, pavers, sand, landscape cloth, signs, two dog waste stations and two benches. The $1 per month Voluntary Park Fund donation is an option on utility customer’s monthly bill.

Their yard at 818 Church Street is made up of almost entirely edible fruits and vegetables including chard, greens, garlic, onions, celery, tomatoes, peppers and edible flowers. They use a variety of companion plants to eliminate the need for pesticides, herbicides and use their compost for fertilizer.

In honor of National Community Health Center week, the HealthPoint administration team showed their appreciation by providing staff with new HealthPoint polo shirts and scheduled Kona Ice for several hours in all their clinics.
