Funeral homes on the Grimes County’s rotation list for unattended deaths will soon receive much needed financial relief, thanks to Grimes County commissioners. At the Oct.20 Regular Meeting commissioners approved an increase and standardization of the fees the County will pay. Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Mark Laughlin said he was approached by the funeral homes on the rotation list because the cost of supplies and fuel has risen “dramatically in the last couple of months,” and the County’s discounted fees haven’t changed in years.

Grimes County Farm Bureau members made their opinions known at the 58th Grimes County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting Thursday, Oct. 21, by approving a resolution opposing a tax on miles driven and approving a second resolution opposing monitoring and reporting of financial transactions by financial institutions to the IRS. Board members, Tim Akers and Ronnie Floyd presented the resolutions.

The Grimes County Farm Bureau (GCFB) welcomed 140 members and guests to the 58th annual meeting Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Anderson. Attendees enjoyed the traditional steak dinner and received valuable information about resources to ferret out fact from fiction in a world of media bias.

Janie Legge, 60, of Plantersville, passed away at Houston Methodist Hospital of The Woodlands on September 3, 2021. A visitation was held October 30, 2021 at Nobles Funeral Chapel, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., following a celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville with Rev. Ed Kucera officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Navasota Livestock Auction auctioneer Greg Goudeau brought in $15,000-plus for the Anderson-Shiro Education Foundation Saturday, Oct. 16. Among the more than two dozen auction items up for grabs were a metal Nativity, Texans tickets, a Crawfish Boil for 20, and four live oak trees. Anderson-Shiro students contributed to the cause with a steel framed glider swing made by the ASHS Ag Department and four separate pieces of artwork donated by the ASHS Art Class.
