A 60-year-old Navasota man, Lee Johnson, was struck by a train and killed late Tuesday night. Around 11:47 p.m. May 30, Navasota Police responded to reports of a possible pedestrian struck by a train near the Union Pacific railroad crossing between Washington Avenue and Blackshear Street.

Grimes County Sheriff’s Deputies uncovered a drug operation during a traffic stop in Roans Prairie June 3. Around 2:30 a.m. Deputy Copeland observed a silver Dodge Ram run a stop sign at the intersection of Texas 30 and Texas 90. When Copeland approached the vehicle a strong odor of marijuana was detected so a probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle.

A family of four lost their home in a fire Thursday morning. At 10:09 a.m. June 1, first responders were dispatched to a structure fire at the 2000 block of Trailride Ln., approximately four miles outside of Navasota. When Navasota Fire Department arrived at 10:18 a.m. the doublewide mobile home was engulfed in flames and partially collapsed.

During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, he searched for a change of scenery. Small town Anderson caught his attention, so he packed his bags and made the move. He quickly fell in love with the area and decided he wanted to remain there for the rest of his life.

Students at Navasota ISD’s Bizzell Academy have taken the next step in following their dreams. Bizzell graduated 44 students during the annual commencement ceremony at Brosig Performing Arts Center June 1.

Each year at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Annual Memorial Day weekend bazaar in Stoneham, a member or members of the parish are recognized and honored with the title of “Mayor(s) of Stoneham” and will reign until next year’s bazaar. This year’s honorees were Thomas and Sandra Mock (not pictured). Thomas was presented the award by his son Tommy Mock.
