Two people in separate speeding incidents were arrested on Texas 6 by Navasota Police Officers. Officers were enforcing traffic laws on Texas 6 around 11:50 p.m. June 23, when they observed a vehicle reportedly traveling over 95 MPH. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Jonte McGee, 22, of Houston. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana, so the vehicle was searched.

A 47-year-old Plantersville man, Joseph Kwiatkowski, is facing his seventh DWI charge following an arrest in Navasota June 23. Around 8 p.m. Navasota Police responded to a reckless driving call on Texas 6. The driver was reportedly speeding and swerving in-between lanes heading south toward Navasota city limits. An officer observed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

PLANTERSVILLE – For the second time this month a motorcycle accident claimed a life in Grimes County, this one on FM 1774. Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Justin Ruiz said around 3:17 p.m. a 2021 Peterbilt 18-wheeler was traveling southbound on FM 1774 approximately a half mile north of Texas 105 East.

Navasota ISD is preparing for changes coming to the Texas Education Agency’s A-F rating system for schools. The TEA A-F rating system focuses on academic growth, student performance and closing inequality gaps in education. The system is updated every five years and the new standard will be used for the 2022-2023 school year.

Navasota ISD Board of Trustees voted to adopt a resolution against disapproving a Petition for Detachment and Annexation for two properties located on FM 244. Prior to the monthly board meeting June 20, a special hearing in compliance with Texas Education Code 13.051H was held. The property includes 11.98 acres, 6193 FM 244, of Bryce and Christina Haynes and 40.07 acres, 5873 FM 244, of the DL Akin Properties.
