Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Cheryl Hunter Luce, 64, who passed away Jan. 31, in College Station. Her funeral was held in the Concord Chapel, Friday Feb. 4. The service was supposed to be held in the Concord Cemetery, but due to bad weather it was changed. Brother Matt Carey was the minister in charge of the service. Days Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral.

Are you hungry for fried fish? Salem Lutheran Church will be hosting a fish fry with all the trimmings Friday, March 11, at the White Hall Community Center. They will serve from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Plates are $10 per plate, and you may take it to go or dine in. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the White Hall Store and from members of the church. The membership of Evergreen Baptist Church enjoyed breakfast fellowship Sunday, Jan. 30, in the fellowship hall with approximately 50 attending. All sort of good food was enjoyed by all. Even more attended morning worship. We were so full that it was hard not falling asleep in service. During service we also had communion. It was a full and wonderful day.

Black History began in Chicago during the summer of 1915. Conceived by Historian Carter G Woodson who proposed marking a time to honor African Americans and raise awareness of Black History. February was chosen primarily because the second week of the month coincides with the birthdays of both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. It’s celebrated from Feb. 1-March 1. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Martin Luther King. Happy Black History Month!

Sunday worship at Salem was exciting. The Holy Cross Lutheran youth were at Camp Allen for the weekend and decided to come to our church as part of their weekend. Since we have few youth, seeing this large group of children (young adults) sitting in the pews was a fantastic way to start my week. Thanks for worshipping with us.
