Happy Black History Month
Black History began in Chicago during the summer of 1915. Conceived by Historian Carter G Woodson who proposed marking a time to honor African Americans and raise awareness of Black History. February was chosen primarily because the second week of the month coincides with the birthdays of both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. It’s celebrated from Feb. 1-March 1. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Martin Luther King. Happy Black History Month!
February is also American Heart Month. This is a time when all people can focus on their Cardiovascular Health. Hypertension is a leading risk factor for Heart Disease and Stroke. The leading cause of death nationwide, heart disease affects both men and women.
Grimes County Historical Commission will meet at the Grimes County Courthouse. 100 S. Main Street in Anderson, Monday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. They meet every second Monday of each month.
The annual Texas Farm Bureau Photo Contest is an opportunity for members to share their best pictures with the entire Lone Star State and maybe even win a cash prize. To enter the contest, you must be a Texas Farm Bureau member or an immediate family member of a Texas Farm Bureau member and a resident of Texas. Grimes County Commissioners Court meetings are the first and third Wednesday of the month. Meetings have moved to the new Grimes County Criminal Justice & Business Center, 270 FM 149, Anderson.
Navasota Farmers Market will be held Saturday, March 12, from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. at Navasota Public Library. New vendors will also be at the market.
Fanthorp Focus Weekend, “The Inn After Fanthorp” will be held Feb. 12- 13, 2022. The stage coach will run Saturday, Feb. 12, from 11-3 p.m.
The 2022 Primary Election is beginning soon. Final day to request a ballot by mail is Feb. 18. Early voting days are Feb. 14 through Feb. 25, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Early voting locations include Grimes County Courthouse, 100 South Main Street in Anderson and at the Navasota Center, 101 Stadium Drive in Navasota. Extended voting hours are Tuesday, Feb. 15 and Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. Election day is Tuesday, March 1. All voting locations are closed Monday, Feb. 21, for Presidents’ Day.
