Read moreArea friends of Dexter Lavender gathered at the Keith Community Center to celebrate his 70th birthday Saturday, Dec. 5 which is his actual birthday. There were approximately 50 people, both family members and friends gathered to wish him well. The food consisted of fried fish, fries, hushpuppies, beans, potato salad and lots of other good eats. His wife Mary baked a delicious birthday cake and other desserts were served. Everyone had a wonderful time. He is the son of the late Herbert and Myrtle Lavender.

Around July or August of this year I began to think about retiring and finally decided to bite the bullet and do it. It will be a bittersweet day Dec. 31 when I finish my last day of work as the Parish Secretary of both churches because I love my job and all the people and friends I have met along this journey or already knew.

Read moreArea residents were sorry to learn of the death of Richard Coneley who passed away Saturday, Nov. 28 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Mitchell Beene, with whom he lived for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife Esta Marle Dudley Conley who passed away Oct. 26, 2018.
