Richards Civic Club and Richards Volunteer Fire Department have put together a community tailgating party at Teague Park, right behind the Richards VFD station - Sunday July Fourth, starting at 5 p.m. This is a first-time tailgate party for the two groups, both hoping to have a big turnout. Bring your lawn chairs, lawn games, snacks, drinks, and BBQ pits!

Read moreThis has certainly been a busy week for the seniors graduating from Iola High School. It all began with the baccalaureate service at Evergreen Baptist Church Wednesday, May 26, with 21 of the 32 graduating seniors presented with bibles from area churches. It was fitting that the number was 21 since they are the 2021 graduating class.
Read moreLast Saturday the Grimes VFW Post 4006 and Auxiliary distributed Buddy Poppies at different places in the county. I want to personally thank all the people who stopped at our tables and accepted a poppy and to those who graciously made donations to the Relief Fund. Several people indicated they had not seen poppies since they were very young. These monies are used strictly for veterans and families in need.

Our family will soon be going to Corpus Christi for the annual “Hoffart” family vacation. Counting the little and big ones too, if nothing happens there will be 32 of us in attendance. Can’t wait!

This group of 17 young adults have plans that range from Agricultural Science, Social Media Marketing, to Cyber Security and Government protection. Guest speaker for the RISD graduation was be Robert Frazier, brother to History Teacher for RISD Timothy Frazier. Robert Frazier has a background working for the US Government with a specialty in securities and policies. While his brother Timothy Frazier has worked for RISD for several years and works with students to teach U.S. and local history as well as important civics for local government.
