OLLIE JEWEL THOMAS DOTSON
1935 – 2019
Services for Ollie J. Thomas Dotson, 84, of Houston, and formerly of Navasota were held Monday morning at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Houston, TX with Pastor Keith Gray, Eulogist.
Ollie Jewel was born to the union of Samuel Thomas and Christine Steed in Wellborn, TX on May 13, 1935. She was the eldest of four children. Ollie Jewel was adopted in the Robinson Family as Mr. Wm. Robinson’s daughter. The family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where she attended school. Later upon returning to Texas she attended the Stoneham Community School in the Grimes County area, the Navasota George Washington Carver High School and Calvert, TX High School. Ollie Jewel also completed course study for CNA Nursing, to which enabled her to manage Day Home Services for children in Houston. She also studied Culinary Arts.
Ollie Jewel was united in marriage to Mr. Clabe Dotson, Sr., to which union, two children, Albert and Elishi, were born.
Ollie accepted Christ at an early age in the AME Zi on Church in Wellborn, TX and under the leadership of her grandmother Pastor E. C. Steed. Later in life she moved to Houston and attended the Walls Chapter AME Zion Church. During the early 1970’s she united with the Bellfort Seventh-Day Adventist Church and held offices of the Sabbath School Secretary, Head Deaconess and Pathfinder Youth Club.
Mrs. Dotson was proceeded by her parents and children; a grandchild and three sisters.
She leaves a legacy with several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Elbert McDowell; nieces, one nephew and other collateral relatives and friends.
Mrs. Dotson was laid to rest next to her son, Albert, in the McDonald Cemetery in Navasota.
