Rosa Castillo, 93, of Navasota, passed away Tuesday, December 31, at her home. Visitation with family and friends was held Friday, January 3, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota with a parish rosary following at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass celebrating her life was at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, at Christ Our Light Catholic with the Rite of Committal following in Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Eli Lopez served as the celebrant. Arrangements were under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Rosa was born in Mexico on September 6, 1926 to Juan and Leonides Ovalle Nava. She married Arnulfo Castillo in Mexico on December 12, 1951. Together they had seven children. She was a devoted housewife, taking pride in taking care of her home and family. She loved to cook, and as the family grew (and how it grew!) with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren entering the picture, Rosa much preferred everyone coming to her house so that she could cook and spend time with the grands. She particularly enjoyed tending her flowerbeds and the roses she grew there. Her home and her arms were always open, she welcomed everyone and before you could walk through the door, a place was already set at the table. She was the epitome of «mi casa es su casa».

A devout Catholic, Rosa was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota and faithfully attended Mass each Sunday. She instilled her unwaivering faith in each of her children and their children. She always wore a smile and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was known to dance around the kitchen with anyone who would give her a twirl to her favorite song, La Puerta Negra. To Rosa, family was everything, and her children blessed her with over 100 grands, great grands and great-great grands. What a legacy she left to cherish her memory!

Rosa is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Javier and Margarita Castillo, Mario and Irene Castillo and Manuel and Daila Castillo; daughters and sons-in-law Rosa and Juan Salazar, Alicia and Facundo Rios, Elva Garcia and Danny York and Ofelia Castillo; sister Sofia Nava; 30 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 6 great, great grand-children.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnulfo Castillo; son-in-law Alejandro Arriaga and niece Maricruz Salazar Castillo.
