Green receives life sentence
ANDERSON- It took a jury comprised of three men and nine women just 18-minutes to sentence James “Danny” Green, 45, of Bedias to the maximum life in prison for the 2016 murder of Jason Currie.
“This verdict and sentence against Danny Green gives a measure of justice to the family of Jason Currie,” said district attorney Andria Bender. “Our office looks forward to the trial setting for the co-defendant Colton Manning later this year.”
During the sentencing phase, jurors heard testimony regarding Greens past criminal history and felonies committed after the murder of Currie and before his arrest for the crime. Green faced a 25-year to life sentence.
On April 16, a Grimes County jury found Green guilty of first-degree murder. The honorable Judge Albert McCaig Jr. of the 506thDistrict Court presided over the trial which began with jury selection April 8.
Currie was reported missing June 25, 2016. Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Investigators along with the Texas Ranger Service conducted an exhaustive three-week investigation. Currie’s body was discovered in a creek bed in a remote location off County Road 142, July 13, 2016.
Green and his accomplice Colton Joe Manning, 26, were both charged with the murder of Currie. Constable Blake Jarvis who served as GCSO captain at the time obtained a confession from Green.
In the confession Green detailed a confrontation at a private deer camp where he and Manning both shot Currie.
According to the probable cause statement, Green and Manning were supposedly meeting Currie for a drug deal, where Green admitted he and Manning shot Currie, loaded his body into Green’s truck and dumped it at one location. The following day they moved the body to a creek bed off County Road 142.
A friend of Currie was present and witnessed the murder but escaped in a truck.
Manning is set to face trial for his role in the murder later this year.
