Evergreen VBS donates to food pantry
Evergreen Baptist Church Pastor, Rev. Jeff Morgan baptized two new members during Sunday morning service July 23. They were Kylee Ramirez and Ryako Ganci. They are two of our church teens. It is certainly good to have them.
During service it was also announced the children raised $350 at Vacation Bible School during a contest between the boys and girls. The girls won for the second year. Money collected was donated to Iola Food Pantry. Canned goods were also collected. Thanks to all who participated.
Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No. 458 held their monthly meeting at the Masonic Lodge Hall in North Zulch July 24. There was a good number of members and visitors attending. The main dish was hamburgers and hot dogs in honor of Independence Day as well as other good holiday food. The business meeting followed.
The membership of Evergreen Baptist Church had a workday July 24, with around 16 members. They replaced the seats and backs on a number of chairs. They also enjoyed pizza, salad and dessert. A good time was had by all. Thanks to all that assisted.
I recently noticed a small building in Iola on FM 39 has been moved to FM 244 near the home of Merle McDuffie. Hopefully it will be used for some purpose.
It is almost time for Iola students to return to school. They return Aug. 16. Wonder who will be happiest – the students or parents? Evergreen Baptist Church is hosting a Back-to-School Family Bash Aug. 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. There will be fun for the entire family. The church will provide two tacos or a quesadilla, drinks and a Kona shave ice to everyone. You may bring money to purchase other items Hopefully it will be a fun time for everyone. Make plans to attend.
Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Wilmer Lee Lawson who passed away July 23. He was born Nov 12, 1944 to W.A. and Corine Glass Lawson. He was preceded in death by his parents and several other family members. Survivors include his wife Bertha Lawson and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, well as several siblings. His funeral was held at Madisonville Funeral Home and burial was at Willow Hole Cemetery near North Zulch. Do remember his wife and other family members in your prayers.
