FREEPORT – Navasota’s freshman football team traveled to Brazosport Oct. 26, for their final game of the season with a District Championship on the line. The Rattlers used a fast start to upend Brazosport 28-12.

The Rattlers got off to a fast start with an 8-yard run by Kynnavion Chappel. Hugo Garcia tacked on the extra point.

With Brazosport inside their own 20 and driving, the Rattlers got a big stop with an interception by Ahmari Williams. The pick set up another Chappel Touchdown run, this one from 38 yards out. Garcia split the uprights. Navasota led 14-0 after the opening quarter.

Following another defensive stand, Chappel escaped for a 44-yard touchdown run. Garcia remained perfect on the kick to give the Rattlers a 21-0 halftime lead.

The Exporters scored in the second half, but the Rattlers answered on Chappel’s fourth touchdown run, an impressive 70-yard scamper. Garcia completed the Rattler scoring tacking on the point-after.

Navasota’s defensive- stronghold continued with a DJ McGinty interception right before the end of the third quarter to stop another Exporter drive. The Exporters scored a late touchdown to finalize the game 28-12.

Other offensive leaders included Mason Warren and Anthony Cortez. Additional defensive leaders were Santiago Trejo and Spencer Ellis.

The Rattler freshman finished 6-2-1 to earn the District 12-4A Championship.
