Navasota wins Mike Dacus Classic
Navasota earned the overall tournament championship at the Mike Dacus Classic, accumulating more points overall than any other school.
The tournament features five divisions: varsity, junior varsity, freshman, eighth and seventh grade. Navasota placed in the top-three in all but one division, including a first-place finish and three second-place finishes.
The Navasota seventh grade team earned first place going 5-0 in the tournament. Franklin and Bellville finished second and third respectively. Eighth grade finished in second place with a 4-1 record, falling to Franklin in the championship. Finishing third was La Grange.
Lake Creek won first place in the JV and freshman division, with each team knocking off Navasota in the championship games. Aggieland Homeschool placed third in the freshman division while Madisonville placed third in JV.
In the varsity division Madisonville won first followed by Huffman and New Waverly. The Rattlers finished with a 2-2 record. They picked up wins over Smithville 61-31, and La Grange, 36-27. They suffered losses to Giddings, 35-34, and Madisonville, 52-33.
Navasota played at rival Brenham Tuesday, Dec. 13 (results were not available at press time). The Rattlers play at Rockdale Friday, Dec. 16, with games slated for 5, 6:15 and 7:30 p.m. Navasota hosts Franklin Monday, Dec. 19, with tip-off at 4:30, 5:45 and 7 p.m.
