Dickson named pre-season all conference

Tren’Davian Dickson’s performance last year has earned him a preseason college football honor.

The Navasota High School graduate has been named to the preseason all-Southwestern Athletic Conference second team. The red-shirt junior wide receiver is one of two Texas Southern University players recognized.

Dickson had 46 receptions for 796 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games last year. He had two kickoff returns for 53 yards and three rushes for 12 yards.

Baseball

Trois-Rivieres Aigles pitcher Garrett Harris improved his record to 7-0 with a win over Rockland in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball. Appearing in relief, the Anderson-Shiro High graduate allowed seven hits and one earned run in five innings. He struck out three. The right-hander had a 2.82 earned run average through 12 appearances.

In 18 games for the Orix Buffaloes of the Nippon league in Japan, pitcher Tyler Eppler had a 4-3 record and 2.55 ERA. The Navasota product had three holds.

Pitcher Dalton Acosta lost his July 12 start for Yuba-Sutter in the summer Golden State league. The past Rattler allowed two hits and four earned runs in three innings. The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff right-hander walked a season-high five.

Men’s rodeo

Anderson-Shiro High alumnus Paden Hurst placed seventh in bareback riding at an Elko, Nev., event and collected $277.

Women’s volleyball

Previously at Anderson-Shiro, Hannah Barosh is a j u n i o r outside h i t t e r and defensive specialist for S o u t h - eastern Louisiana University. She played two years for Navarro College.

Iola High graduate Amanda Gooch decided not to use her final year of eligibility at Sam Houston S t a t e University. She had a year remaining after receiving a redshirt in 2017 because of an injury, according to Ben Rikard, assistant athletic director of media relations.
