•The Navasota Theatre Alliance presents youth summer theatre camps directed for NTA by Jessica McHale. The rising star camp will feature Kid Frankenstein and is available to graduated first through fifth-graders. Registrations must be completed by April 27. Auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27. The camp will be held July 22-27. April 17

•The Muddy Water Bookstore in downtown Navasota will host a children’s reading hour from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17. Local author Renee Nolte will be present for reading and book signing.

•An Exploring History Luncheon will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Southwood Community Center, 1520 Rock Prairie Rd. in College Station. Peter Witt will provide a presentation on “History of Inuit Print Making.” Lunch is included for $7 or the lecture only is free. April 18

•The Texas Master Naturalist – Brazos Valley Chapter invites the public to the monthly chapter presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, 3232 Briarcrest Drive in Bryan. The presentation on “Invasive Aquatic Species in Texas and Their Impacts” will be given by Dr. Michael Masser. The free event is open to the public.

April 19

•Country music singer and songwriter Jason Crabtree will make a special guest appearance from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the Grimes County VFW Post #4006 Flight Deck Lounge. There will be no cover charge for the event and everyone is welcome to stop in and enjoy music and dancing.

April 20

•The Lake Grove Cemetery Association, south of Iola, will hold an annual meeting Saturday, April 20, at The Lake Grove Cemetery. The members will meet at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow under the pavilion.

•A free gardening seminar will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, At Martha’s Bloomers in Navasota. The topic hosted by Karen Weir will be about container gardening.

April 21

•The 2019 Grimes County Aggie Muster will be held 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the August Horst Pavilion next to the Grimes County VFW Post #4006. There will be food available and speakers before the Muster Ceremony.

April 26

•The 17th annual Grimes County Relay For Life will be held 6 p.m. until midnight Friday, April 26, at Brule Field in Navasota. For more information, email grimescorelay forlife@gmail.com.

•The White Hall Community Center Birthday Bash car and bike show will be held Saturday, April 27, at 14536 FM 362 in Navasota. There will be a barbecue chicken meal, live music and bucket raffles. May 1

•The Navasota Garden Club and Music Study Club of Navasota will host a joint meeting beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at First Baptist Church Navasota. The Garden Club will have installation of officers at 9:30 a.m. Garden club members are to bring salads and the music study club members will bring desserts. Visitors are welcome.

May 2

•Grimes County VFW Post #4006 will honor the National Day of Prayer with a service led by the Rev. Henry Sanders beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in the main hall of the post. The public is invited to the annual observation services.

May 4

•The city of Plantersville will hold an election Saturday, May 4, for the positions of mayor and five aldermen.

May 17

•The Anderson Senior Center will hold a hot dog lunch fundraiser at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at 129 Main Street in Anderson. A hot dog lunch with all condiments, dessert and a drink is $7. A two hot dog lunch can be purchased for $9.

May 27

•A Memorial Day program will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, May 27, in the main hall of Grimes County VFW Post #4006. The public is invited to join the post members as they remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country and the freedoms it holds dear. Commander Carl Dry hopes to see a full house for the short and meaningful service. There will be small flags available throughout the weekend for those who wish to place a flag on the grave marker of a veteran.

First Monday

•The Grimes County Republican Party meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the Anderson Community Center, 415 Hill St. in Anderson.

First Wednesday

•The Navasota Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month September through May. Meetings are usually held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 309 Church St. in Navasota. For more information, email Navasota GardenClub@gmail.com or call 979-255-3778.

First Thursday

First Saturday

•The Whitehall Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold their barbecue sandwich fundraiser beginning at 11 a.m. the first Saturday of each month. The event is held in conjunction with the Texas Pickers Antiques market that runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Whitehall.

Second Monday

•American Legion Mc-Cluskey Post 640 meets at 5 p.m. the second Monday of each month at 415 Hill St. in Anderson.

Second Tuesday

•The Richards Township Association holds their monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Richards Fire Department.

•The Grimes County Democrats meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Progressive Outreach Center located at 615 W. Virginia St. in Navasota.

Second Saturday

•The Grimes County Amateur Radio Group will meet at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of each month at Navasota Fire Department, 1500 LaSalle in Navasota. The club is open to all ages. Third Tuesday

•The Grimes County Republican Women hold the monthly lunch and learn meeting from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Citizens State Bank, 9109 SH 90 in Navasota. Lunch is $10. RSVP to President Teddi Jackson at teddi21@gmail.com or call 936-894-1967.

Third Friday

•State Representative District 13 Ben Leman will have mobile office hours from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. the third Friday of each month in Anderson. The office will be open in the Commissioner’s Courtroom in the courthouse annex at 114 W. Buffington Ave. in Anderson. District office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Capitol Extension Room E1.512 at 1100 Congress Ave.in Austin.

Weekly

•Based on public requests, there will be beginner/intermediate level mixed guitar classes held at Classic Rock Coffee Co. & Kitchen in Navasota. Classes will meet one day per week for one hour and four lessons will be $60. Class must have a minimum of five people. Interested parties may call Chris at 979-574-1187 or the shop at 936-727-5613. Students must provide their own guitar, acoustic preferred, instructor will provide all sheet music.

•The Grimes County Veterans Service Office will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday at 1010 State Highway 90 South in Anderson. The office will continue to be open during the lunch hour for those who can only come by or call at that time. The phone number to reach Veteran Service Officer Jay Lafferty is 936-873-4490. For change of address or any other changes in status, veterans may now contact the VA online at vets.gov for easier and quicker changes.
