McDougald honored by Star

The Keith Civic Club held its monthly meeting Thursday, May 23, at the Keith Community Center. The host for the evening Jon Proskine, and others assisted with setting up the building among other things. The meeting began with a covered dish meal followed by the meeting with a variety of business discussed and acted upon. Thanks to all who assisted in any way.

Richard Lee Crawford, a veteran buried in Evergreen Cemetery had his tombstone erected May 24. Crawford was born Jan. 15, 1944 and passed away Oct. 23, 2018. There are now seven graves in the cemetery that need tombstones, with the oldest dating back to 2008. Hopefully by the end of the year they will all be marked.

Several residents attended the graduation ceremony for Iola High School held at the gym Saturday, May

25. There was an overflowing crowd to honor the seniors. Valedictorian Jaggar Vaughn and Salutatorian Michaela Bosquez each gave speeches. Scholarships were presented and announced as well. Congratulations to all graduates.

The monthly meeting of the Iola-North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No. 458 was held at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge in North Zulch Monday, May 27, with a good number in attendance. Mrs. Vivian McDougald who has been a member of the Star for a record 70 years was honored. She has been an Iola resident her entire life. Congratulations to her.

Upcoming events within the community include a gospel singing at the Carlos Missionary Baptist Church, 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Following the singing there will be a time of fellowship over a covered dish meal. All are welcome to attend.

The Golden Hearts Senior Citizens group will have their monthly meeting at the Iola Community Center Saturday June 8, with a covered dish meal beginning at noon. All are invited to attend.
