The Anderson Food Pantry will be open Thursday, June 6, from 9 a.m. until noon and later in the day from 5-7 p.m. All residents of Grimes County are eligible to participate.
Thursday, June 6, is World War II D-Day. A wreath will be laid on East Washington Avenue in Navasota at the Flag Monument at 3:30 p.m. to memorialize this historic day. Participating in the memorial are Veterans of Foreign War Post 4006, its VFW Auxiliary and the local Robert Raines Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR). The memorial will be led by VFW Commander Carl Dry and DAR Regent Kathy Wells. The public is urged to attend.
The Fanthorp Inn Stagecoach Saturday is June 8, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Take a trip back to 1850 as you explore what life was like traveling on the Texas frontier! Don’t miss this great opportunity to ride our mule-drawn stagecoach, take a tour of Henry Fanthorp’s beautifully preserved inn or sit on the front porch and enjoy the sweet sound of dulcimer music. There is no admission fee but a suggested donation of $4 for the tour ($10 with coach ride) for adults and $2 for the tour ($5 with coach ride) for children.
The American Legion McClusky Post 640 will meet Monday, June 10, at 415 Hill St. in Anderson across the street from the Volunteer Fire Department at 5 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend. For more information about this post, contact Commander Charlie Hooper at 817-793-0144.
The Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be at the Expo Center in Navasota Thursday, June 13, from 10 a.m. until noon. All residents of Grimes County are eligible to participate. Proof of residency is required.
If you haven’t heard, the Grimes County Courthouse is turning 125 years old. In honor of this milestone event, the Courthouse’s friends, neighbors and communitywide residents are invited to a Free Birthday Celebration in Historic Anderson Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This celebration will feature a variety of activities such as a pancake breakfast, an antique car exhibit with vehicles from the turn of the century, guided tours of the courthouse, a history display inside the courtroom, kids’ korner, hot dogs and an ice cream social courtesy of Blue Bell Creameries. Music will be provided by a barbershop quartet and a brass band. Dignitaries at the event will include Texas State Senator Charles Schwertner as well as local officials. The day will culminate with the dedication of a time capsule to be sealed for 25 years and opened again at the Courthouse’s 150th birthday celebration.
Each year at the St. Stanislaus bazaar I run the Babusha’s Porch where I sell lots of homemade jellies, breads, salsa, pickles, etc. I have ladies that make the jelly for me. We are low on plums.
