Concord Cemetery Association meeting Oct. 22

The monthly meeting of Keith Civic Club was held at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Sept. 22 with a fair number attending. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all present. There was a variety of business discussed and acted upon during the meeting. A garage sale was set for Saturday, Oct. 29, inside the building. There will be spots available to rent outside the building for anyone wanting to have their own sale. More details will be released later. Other items discussed include the need for a new roof. Some money has been raised, but much more is still needed.

The annual Concord Cemetery Association meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Concord Chapel. This year is the 125th anniversary of the cemetery. If you have family buried in the cemetery or have interest in the cemetery, make plans to attend. Iola’s annual Hay Day Celebration is Saturday, Oct. 22. There will be a parade on Main Street as well as multiple vendor booths with a variety of items for sale. Hope everyone makes plans to attend. Hope to see you there.

The monthly meeting of the Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No 458 was held at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge in North Zulch Monday, Sept. 26, with a good number attending. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. During the meeting, a variety of business was discussed and acted upon. Several members were absent due to illness and other reasons.

A large crowd of family, classmates and others that attended the funeral for Contessa Shive at Iola High School Gymnasium Wednesday, Sept. 28. She was born Nov. 30, 2008 and passed away Sept. 21. She is the daughter of Jeffery and Kara Shive. She is survived by them and by her brother and sisters. She was a member of Cross Baptist Church. She was saved at church camp in 2020. Following the service, those present were served a meal in the cafeteria. Do remember her family in your prayers.

There was a meet you at the pole prayer gathering at Iola High School early Wednesday, Sept. 28, for students and others. Donuts were served.

A keep it alive community- wide ceremony for a night of worship was held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Iola High School’s Bulldog Stadium. The speaker was Jon Groves, and music was provided by Band Reeves. Several area churches dismissed their services for the evening. A large group gathered for the service. Prior to the service, pizza and drinks were served.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the Family Sowell will be in charge of morning worship service at Evergreen Baptist Church. Come feed your soul and be blessed by some wonderful music. A meal will be served at the close of the service. All are welcome to attend. Stuckey, Cynthia Cutler, Sam Frazier, Dennis Masserly, Tray Carda. Do hope your special day was a happy one.

Happy anniversary this week to Joseph and Nicole Wilson Poehl, married Oct. 7, 2017; Tony and Janis Compian, married Oct. 8. Join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
