Read moreEven playing with a bulky cast, Blaine Hoover made an impression in his Tarleton State University football debut. The left defensive end out of Bedias had five tackles in the opener, a win over Mississippi Valley State. Hoover said a dozen programs showed interest in him after his past two years playing for University of the Incarnate Word. He had visitations to out-of-state schools scheduled in December. By January, he said, he committed to Tarleton State.
Read moreThe Iola Bulldog Cross Country team competed in Madisonville Wednesday, Aug. 31, with state qualifier, Lindsey Gooch, winning her first meet of the year. On Thursday, Sept. 8, the team ran at Waco-Midway, competing against schools from 1-A to 4-A. Each Bulldog runner shaved over a minute and a half off of their previous times. Gooch finished second among 119 competitors.

During the summer the Coastal Bend College sophomore focused on conditioning-- especially vertical training and agility--to prepare for the season. The Anderson-Shiro High School graduate also took private volleyball lessons.
