It’s amazing what $3.99 per gallon gas can accomplish! For years I’ve complained about drivers speeding 80-plus mph on SH 6 but now, in a strange turn of events, another group is in the crosshairs of my ire – the drivers going 55 mph! Geez, maybe comedian Chris Rock was right when he said “You can never make a woman happy, it’s impossible. They’re always complaining about something.”
Read moreOne thing I’ve noticed in the numerous public meetings I’ve been to with TxDOT is that TxDOT tends to behave with the spirit of an average teenager. When a project is presented for public comments, the adults in the room give advice, offer their suggestions. And just like an impetuous teen, TxDOT will ignore the good advice and proceed in whatever fashion best suits their own goals. I’ve seen this happen time and again, with the planning of the S.H. 249 expansion, with the project at F.M. 2, and the project at S.H. 105 and F.M. 1774 in Plantersville to name a few.
Read moreWhile the rest of Texas has had weeks to recuperate from the initial shock of their 2022 Notice of Appraised Value, Grimes County residents experienced their seismic event just this past Friday. As one well-known Navasota elected official said, “I nearly fainted!” I would imagine that right now the Grimes Central Appraisal District (GCAD) is about as popular as Harris County Elections Administration upon discovering 10,000 mail ballots weren’t entered into the count on primary election night! Within five years, every state was observing Mother’s Day and President Woodrow Wilson declared it a national holiday in 1914.
Read moreI absolutely love Washington Avenue! One of the most therapeutic things in my life the first year or two after my husband died was walking from my house to downtown admiring the stately old homes and enjoying the shade the towering trees provided. The sidewalk in front of the former Red Door Bed & Breakfast was lined with beds of fragrant flowers allowing me to literally get out and smell the roses! The last thing I want to see on Washington Avenue is commercial creep - that incremental destruction of Navasota’s proud gateway to its historic downtown.
Read moreIs it sick to love a vehicle? I sure hope not because I really, really love my truck. It’s my ex-truck now, but during the 31 years that she was mine we got very close.
