Anderson-Shiro Education Foundation held their annual fundraiser dinner Oct. 21, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson. This year the organization is celebrating 10 years of providing grants to assist teachers and students in various forms of interactive education. The event included a steak dinner, live and silent auction and music from Bill Mock and his band.

Students at Anderson-Shiro Elementary School were honorary firefighters during their annual Fire Safety Day. They learned fire safety from Anderson and Shiro Volunteer Fire Departments, had the opportunity to man the fire hose and each student received their own firefighter helmet.

The Navasota Planning and Zoning Commission approved two preliminary site plans at the Oct. 12 Regular Meeting. The first was for an addition to the existing Baylor Lumber Backyard at 310 W. Washington Avenue and the second, for the construction of a retail strip center at 114 Austiana Hills Drive.

The City of Navasota Parks and Facilities Maintenance Department will be conducting a cemetery cleanup at Oakland Cemetery beginning the first week of November. Anyone with items that do not meet the cemetery city ordinance must be removed by Tuesday, Oct. 31.
