At the Oct. 23 Navasota City Council Meeting, Mayor Bert Miller issued a proclamation recognizing Nov. 6-10 as Municipal Court Week. The Proclamation pointed out that “more people come in contact with municipal courts than all other Texas courts combined and public impression of the Texas judicial system is largely dependent upon the public’s experience in municipal court.”

Members of the Navasota ISD Elementary Honor Choir amazed the crowd with their performance at the historic Brosig Performing Arts Center Nov. 6. The Honor Choir features students from all three NISD Elementary campuses, John C. Webb, Brosig and Highpoint. The singers closed with a rendition of the popular Beetles’ hit, “Yellow Submarine.”

The fate of a historic building on Holland Street in Navasota awaited council decision during the Nov. 6, meeting. According to a report prepared by Navasota Code Enforcement Specialist Erik Covarrubias (who was out sick), and presented by Navasota Development Services Director Lupe Diosdado, the building at 202 Holland Street in Navasota had a portion of the roof cave in.

Navasota Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a program that will allow the district to develop teachers from within. “Everyone in this room is obviously aware that for quite some time we have had a teacher shortage in the state,” said NISD Director of Personnel and Administrative Services, Derek Bowman. He said since 2014 the state has seen a 27% decrease in certified teachers.

A Grimes County off-duty deputy working a wedding in Grimes County is suspected of stealing monetary gifts meant for the bride and groom. KHOU 11 in Houston first reported the alleged incident. A Pearland couple, Tony Clark and his newlywed wife, Chelsea, married Nov. 4, at a wedding venue in Grimes County.

The brave men and women who served to protect American freedom were honored on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, with a parade through historic downtown Navasota. Turnout and participation for the parade increased from past years.

Navasota Police Officer, Todd Moon, was promoted to Patrol Sergeant Nov. 7, during an official pinning ceremony. Moon began his career as a jailer with Grimes County Sheriff’s Office in 2014. He attended TEEX Police Acadamy in 2015 and was sworn in as a deputy.
