Thanks to Susan Brak and other Salem Lutheran volunteers the 2023 VBS which was a huge success. The children were still excited during Sunday service. Maybe Little Man can attend VBS next summer.

Macedonia Baptist Church invites Grimes County to a three-day revival featuring a minister raised and trained locally at Macedonia. The revival is Sept. 13-15 featuring Pastor Earnest Powell of Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church in La Vernia. Services begin at 7 p.m.

Evergreen Baptist Church Pastor, Rev. Jeff Morgan baptized two new members during Sunday morning service July 23. They were Kylee Ramirez and Ryako Ganci. They are two of our church teens. It is certainly good to have them.

Grimes County Senior Center is hosting their annual hot dog lunch and raffle fundraiser Wednesday, Aug. 9. A hot dog lunch with condiments, bag of chips, soft drink or water and dessert is $10. For $12, you can get all of the above with two hot dogs.

Evergreen Baptist Church had a full house of members and visitors for Sunday morning worship services April 2. There was an Easter Egg Hunt and lunch afterwards with lots of good food and desserts. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Continuing the Bookman family history in Grimes County and Trinity University we find that Jesse Bookman’s two children, Pickens Butler and Mattie J., both attended Trinity University at its original location of Tehaucana, Texas. The University was founded there in 1869 and relocated to Waxahachie in 1902, before making a final home at San Antonio.

April Fool’s Day was Saturday, the day of our BBQ sandwich sales. The day started early with presales. We had a few rough spots throughout, but they ended quickly. We sold all the meat the firemen cooked. Thank everyone for making this fundraiser the best we have had in months.

The Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be open Thursday, April 13 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. in the back-parking lot of the Grimes County Fairgrounds. Any resident of Grimes County will be served and will only need to show their driver’s license when they complete the once-a-year Client Assistant Intake form.
