Since I was handicapped without a computer, my VFW meeting agenda was cut, taped, partially typed and parts were hand-written. My work looked like a kindergarten student made it. Either way, the District 17 Auxiliary President, his Jr. Vice and the State Guard all thought it was quite humorous. They complimented our Auxiliary and how it was fun to be with us. Conclusion to my story, we received a good inspection.

The 3rd Annual Anderson VFD State Championship BBQ Cookoff is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7 at the Grimes County Expo Center. The sponsor dinner opens the event on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. The live auction begins at 8 p.m. followed by a dance featuring the Risky Liver Band. There was a special memorial service held at Lake Grove Cemetery Thursday, Sept. 14, for Elton L. Gomillion. He diedAug. 1, 1943 during World War II. For all those years his body was lost. Some of his family gave DNA samples and he was identified. He was the son of Joseph John “Joe” and Tennie Davis Gomillion and was buried beside them.
