Keith Civic Club is having a community yard sale Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. inside Keith Community Center. Space is also available for rent for anyone wanting to have a garage sale. An outside 10x10 space is $25. Tables can be provided for an additional $10 each. If you have items you want to get rid of, you can donate them to Keith Civic Club. All money raised will go toward a new roof. Monetary donations will also be accepted. For more information or to reserve a spot, call Bob, 979-229-3956 or Mac, 979-820-0104.
Iola High School hosted homecoming Friday, Oct. 21, at Bulldog Stadium against the Bartlett Bulldogs. Iola won 38-8. Easton Evans and Lilly Juarez were elected Homecoming King and Queen. Congratulations to both of them and to the Bulldogs for winning.
The Town of Iola had their annual Hay Day Celebration Saturday, Oct. 22. There were lots of good booths and food. It was a fun day.
The Sowell Family Singers of Tennessee were in the morning worship service at Evergreen Baptist Church Sunday, Oct. 23. They did a wonderful job of bringing The Word of God through music. Singers included: Abbie, Naoma, Joshua, Justice and Joe Mark Sowell. Following the service, a meal was served in the church fellowship hall. There were 97 people attending the service.
Don’t forget the time change Sunday, Nov. 6. Time falls back one hour. I wish it would not change.
Area residents were sorry to learn about the death of Ruby Ruth Lavender Stuckey who passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, following a short illness. She will certainly be missed. Stuckey was preceded in death by her husband, Truitt Stuckey, who passed away July 4, 2015. She was the daughter of Rod and Isa Lavender. Her services will be private graveside services in the Martins Prairie Cemetery where her husband and parents are buried. Do remember her children and other family members in your prayers.
The annual meeting of Concord Cemetery Association was Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Concord Chapel. A variety of business was handled including changes to the bylaws. All went well.
Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No 458 was held in North Zulch Monday, Oct. 24, with good attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. During the meeting, Marilynne Knighton, the Deputy Grand Matron of District 4 Section 6 made her official visit. She spoke on behalf the Grand Matron of Texas. The Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of the Local Eastern Star are Debbie Werner and Davis Vaughn. Everyone enjoyed the meeting.
That was quite a storm that blew through Monday evening, Oct. 24. Both the Macbride and Tackett home were damaged by a fallen tree. Other trees blew down as well. Thankfully there was no loss of life.
