Navasota school temporarily locked-down
GUNSHOTS REPORTED NORTH OF CAMPUS
Navasota Independent School District’s Brule Elementary School campus andAdministration Building was temporarily placed on lockdown Friday morning, Sept. 23, when a gunshot was fired near the school.
According to Navasota Police, at approximately 9:15 a.m., officers were notified of shots fired near Cedar Creek, north of Brule Elementary and the NISD Administration Building. The school and administration building were immediately placed on lockdown while offi cers responded to the incident and to the schools as a precautionary measure.
At 9:35 a.m., officers determined there was no threat to the district or the community. Officers remained on campus and in the vicinity throughout the day for added security.
“We were very pleased and thankful for the quick response and communication from the Navasota Police Department and how they, and our campus and district staff, handled the situation this morning,” stated NISD Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick. “Fortunately, it did not directly involve the school, but as always, NISD will always take any precautions necessary to do what we can to ensure the safety and security of all of our students and staff at all times.”
