ANDERSON – The Fanthorp Inn state historic site, 579 S Main St, in Anderson will host two events every month during the summer. Visit the Inn July 1, for First Friday programing where you will have an audience with Lady Amelia Murray and on July 9-10 come on out for Focus Weekend on Fanthorp during Reconstruction.

“Anglophiles and Civil War buffs alike will find something to enjoy at Fanthorp this month,” said Chandler Wahrmund, Educator at Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site.

July 1, at noon, 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. the Inn will host a special program where guests can interact with Lady Amelia Murray, Queen Victoria’s Lady in Waiting, who traveled extensively through Texas in 1855 and stopped at the Fanthorp Inn. The following weekend, July 9-10 you can experience the end of the Civil War at Fanthorp. There will be live readings of the Juneteenth orders and guests can pledge their allegiance to the Union just as Henry Fanthorp did in 1865. Admission for both events is free and open to the public. Cash donations are appreciated.

Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site, a Texas Historical Commission site, is a stagecoach stop and inn located on Main Street in Anderson, Texas. Henry Fanthorp had the inn constructed in 1834 as a home for his wife Rachel Kennard. Notable guests include Henderson K Yoakum, Kenneth Anderson, Dr. Anson Jones, and Sam Houston.
