Declaration of Independence reading
ANDERSON - The annual reading in Grimes County of The Declaration of Independence, Action of Second Continental Congress, July 4, 1776, is scheduled for July 1, at 11:45 a.m. on the south steps of the historic Grimes County Courthouse, 100 S. Main Street in Anderson.
This annual ceremony is part of a statewide effort by local criminal defense lawyers’ groups affiliated with the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA). All people of all ages are invited and encouraged to attend the formal reading of The Declaration of Independence and remember the meaning, and the historic significance, of the Fourth of July.
This annual tradition, of the statewide criminal defense bar, TCDLA, began in 2010 and has steadily grown, that in 2016, in commemoration of the 240th anniversary of the signing of The Declaration of Independence, a reading was held in every county in Texas.
