Keith Civic Club meeting Jan. 27

Iola Food Pantry, held at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, was open Saturday, Jan. 15, on a cold and windy day. There was a good number of workers present to give out a variety of food to approximately 40 people and families in the Iola area. Items given out included watermelon, grapefruit, bread and canned goods. Anyone who needs a helping hand can come to the pantry the third Saturday of the month. They will be open Saturday, Feb. 19, from 9-11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

A tombstone for Paula Kay Cuevas was recently set in Martins Prairie Cemetery. She was born Dec. 27, 1963 and died Aug. 20, 2017. This will also be the future resting place of her husband Flavios Cuevas. She was the daughter of Robert and Velma Davis Meleski. May her memory be forever blessed.

In 2021, there was approximately 38 inches of rain that fell in the area. I wish there had been more. Do pray we receive all the rain we need.

Both of the area cemeteries, Martins Prairie and Evergreen, have been mowed and they really look good. I hope they will continue to look good.

The monthly meeting of Pyramid Masonic Lodge No 593 was held at their lodge hall in North Zulch Tuesday, Jan. 18. Only a small number attended with many out for various reasons including sickness. This was the first meeting since November. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. The next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 15. All Master Masons are invited to attend.

The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club will be held at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Jan. 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal. Their business meeting will follow. Everyone is invited to attend. Since this is the first meeting of the year, membership dues will be collected. Come out and visit with your friends and neighbors. Hope to see you there.
