Navasota grad competes in basketball league
Alexus Freeman took part in the Eurobasket Summer League in Atlanta.
The Navasota High School graduate competed for Team Peru this year. She played for Team Japan during the 2019 Eurobasket Summer League.
The event is intended for those seeking a professional opportunity domestically or internationally. Participants are ranked on their cumulative player efficiency ratings average, which measures offensive and defensive contributions.
The point guard ranked 21st among the 26 women listed, according to the Whitecox & Lyons Sports Management online site.
She led Peru with 12 points against Romania and had two rebounds, one assist and one steal. She had five rebounds, three points and one assist against India and two rebounds and one assist in another game against Romania.
The 26-year-old completed her college career at Alcorn State University, where she was named to the all-Southwestern Athletic Conference second team as a senior.

Keaundra Eddings has signed to play for University of Texas at Tyler. The Navasota alumna competed two years for Blinn College, where she was an All-Region XIV selection as a sophomore.
The 5-foot-5 guard played in 23 of 24 games her second season and averaged 12.6 points, second on the squad and 13th in the region. Her 2.2 steals per game led the team and ranked fifth in the region. She averaged 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
Baseball
Rochester Red Wings pitcher Tyler Eppler did not earn a decision despite a quality July 3 start. The former Rattler allowed three hits in six scoreless innings and struck out a season-high six for the Washington Nationals Triple A affiliate. The right-hander singled in his first at-bat, and his sacrifice bunt in the fourth inning moved a runner to third base. Eppler had a 1-5 record and 7.41 earned run average in 11 games and a .500 batting average in six plate appearances.
Football
Richards resident Jesse Hoke is a sophomore offensive lineman for University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He and others on the offensive line were honored in March on the D3football.com Team of the Week for their play against Hardin-Simmons. He started all five of the team’s games.
