Iola VFD fundraiser this weekend

The Keith Civic Club monthly meeting was held at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Feb. 27, with a good number in attendance. The covered dish meal was served at 6:30 p.m. and was enjoyed by all in attendance. Following the meeting, a political rally was held. Local candidates that ran for office were given the opportunity to speak. All went well with the rally.

There was a special meeting at the Orphan Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 Friday, Feb. 18. Lodge secretary David Moore was given the Golden Trowel Award for his long service to the lodge. There was a meal prior to the award ceremony. His wife, Jennie Moore, and other family members were present. Moore has been a Mason for 50 years. Prior member, B.F. “Bill” Cunningham, who passed away last year, was also a recipient of this award.

There was a good turnout for the election held at the Keith Community Center Tues., March 3. 336 area residents came out to vote in the National, State and local races. Those running the election at the Keith Community Center were Brett Davis, Tina Templeton and John R Maxwell. Thank you to all of those that came out to vote. There will be a runoff election held at area polling places Tuesday, May 26. Iola school board election is Saturday, May 2. More election information will be released as it becomes available.

The annual fundraiser for the Iola Volunteer Fire Department will be held at the fire station Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. Friday, March 13, in the evening, there will be a crawfish boil. Saturday, March 14, fish will be served to all in attendance and a silent and live auction will be held. Make plans to attend the fundraiser and help support our firemen, so they can continue helping all of us. Hope to see you there.

Area residents and family members of Ray Pointer in Keith were sorry to receive the sad news of his death Sunday, March 1. He passed away peacefully at his home. Ray was 70 years old. His memorial service was held at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Keith at 11 a.m. Funeral service was Saturday, March 7. Remember his family members in your prayers.

The monthly meeting for the Pyramid Masonic Lodge No. 593 will be held Tuesday, March 17, at their lodge hall in North Zulch. A covered dish meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by the lodge meeting. All Masons are invited to attend.

Happy anniversary this week to Clint and Karri Kennedy, March 10; Wade and Jennifer Akers House, married March 12, 2011; Dustin Ryan and Grace Topping Pedretti, married March 13, 204; Ray and Kim Carson Doty, married March 14, 2015; Michael Ewing and Melanie Ann Herrera Trant, married March 14. I hope that they have many more years of happiness together.
