Runaway campsite discovered

A relentless effort to return a runaway juvenile home uncovered a campsite full of runaways near Klein High School.

According to Grimes County Lieutenant James Ellis, 16-year old Anderson-Shiro student Jacob Brown voluntarily left home Thursday, Feb. 13. Brown was presumed to be in the Spring area with his girlfriend.

Ellis stated he has been in contact with Harris County authorities as well as parents in the Spring area. He said the parents had video of Brown which led him to believe that Brown was indeed in Spring.

“I started making phone calls and got in contact with one of the parents down in the area, and they started asking around and found out through some kids at Klein High School that a group of runaway kids were staying in a tent in a wooded area around Klein High School,” said Ellis.

Ellis said he contacted Harris County Deputy Paul Bay Thursday, Feb. 20, and Bay put him in contact with a Harris County patrolman. He said one of the parents sent him a location of where the tent was supposed to be.

Ellis said the patrolman contacted him at approximately 8:30- 9 p.m. and said they located the tent. “He said they found six juveniles that were staying in the tent, but Brown was not one of them,” explained Ellis.

The son of one of the parents Ellis was in contact with was one of the juveniles that was caught. “She called me early Friday (Feb. 21) and said that as the deputies were approaching the tent Brown and another kid saw the deputy coming and he and another kid fled on foot,” stated Ellis. “The other juvenile was apprehended by the sheriff’s office, but Brown got away.”

Ellis spoke with Brown’s mother Friday and she said she was going to contact Brown to see if he would agree to come home since he was now there by himself. She was able to contact Brown who agreed to let her pick him up in Spring the same day.

Ellis said Brown’s mother drove Brown to the Grimes County Sheriff’s office where they were met by Captain Ryan Rutledge who verified Brown had been safely returned home.
