Four Lady Rattlers were honored on senior night before tipoff between Navasota and the Smithville Lady Tigers which the Lady Rattlers won decisively 51-39.
Seniors honored were Ta’shaunna Leigh, India Williams, Keauna Seaton and Sha’Diamon King.
The Rattlers shot the ball well connecting on 17 of 40 shots from the field for 42.5%. They also outrebounded Smithville 54-32.
Samia White and Sha’dimon King led the way in scoring with 18 and 10 points respectively. Jakayla Jones added 6, Taniaya Warren, Tamia Dailey, Nala Richardson and Porsche Jones each scored
3. Ta’shaunna Leigh added 2 and Mikayla Collins had 1.
The Tigers converted 25 Navasota turnovers into points. “This was another tough grind it out game,” said Navasota Head Coach Tommy Gates. “Smithville came out and really pressured us. We didn’t do a great job of taking care of the basketball. Having 25 turnovers in most games will get you beat but our defense and rebounding kept us in the game. “
“We had some guards in foul trouble and Cookie Leigh had to play almost the entire game. I was really proud of her. She stepped up on both ends of the court,” said Gates.
The win improves the Rattlers district record to 8-1 and they remain tied with LaGrange for first place. The Big Blue wrapped up the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Giddings (results were not available at press time).
The Playoffs begin Monday or Tuesday, Feb. 17 or 18, with the opponent and site to be determined.
