Officers injured during school dispute
Two Navasota Police Officers were treated on scene and a 16-year old was arrested after a verbal dispute turned violent during questioning at Navasota High School.
Navasota ISD Superintendent, Dr. Stu Musick, stated he spoke with high school administration who said two female students were in an argument at lunch, but administration stepped in to defuse the situation before it got violent. Another argument ensued between two male students stemming from the previous argument between the female students. Again, the situation was defused by staff before turning violent.
Musick said while being interviewed, one of the male students got upset and irate and went after officers.
Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt said one of the officers was pushed by a 16-year old student during the interview and officers attempted to take the student into custody. Myatt said the 16-year old’s family showed up which created another situation for the officers to deal with. Other officers were dispatched to assist.
Officers were treated on scene and the 16-year old student was transported to be looked at as a precautionary measure according to Myatt.
“I appreciate the high school administration staff for their quick response in dealing with and defusing the situation before any physical altercation took place. We appreciate the school resource officers and Navasota Police officers for being there to give us assistance,” said Musick.
Musick also said the school was never in a lock down and students weren’t in any immediate danger.
Due to the student being a juvenile, his name is not being released.
