January proclaimed Crime Stoppers month

Grimes County Crime Stoppers president Bob Goldstein holds a proclamation issued by Governor Gregg Abbott declaring January as Crime Stoppers Month.

The proclamation recognizes the contributions made by Crime Stoppers programs across the state, since its creation in 1976, to empower citizens to take a stand against crime…bringing “together law enforcement agencies, citizens and the media to solve crimes and catch criminals.”

In 2019, according to Abbott, Texas Crime Stoppers programs received more than 85,000 anonymous tips leading to the arrest of over 3,790 suspects, with $3 million in rewards paid, and $2 million worth of narcotics seized by law enforcement responding to tips.

Abbott credits the organization with striving to reduce crime in schools through its campus programs. Thousands of tips have allowed them to successfully recover weapons and seize illegal drugs from Texas school campuses.

The Grimes County Crime Stoppers meet at 6 p.m., the first Thursday of each month at the courthouse annex in Anderson, 114 W. Buffington.
